Manchester Blue, Red & Black Plaques

Manchester Blue Plaque SchemeRed Plaques in ManchesterBlack Plaques in Manchester

Blue Plaques
The Blue Plaques Scheme recognises individuals who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of science, medicine, innovation, business, literature, arts and media in and around Manchester. Blue Plaques are erected on buildings where great figures of the past have lived or worked.
Anyone may nominate a person for a Blue Plaque, provided nominees were born more than 100 years ago, or died more than 20 years ago. To nominate your hero or heroin, email blueplaques@everygeneration.co.uk

Red Plaques
Red Plaques are a later development, and are erected to celebrate commemorate events of importance to the social history of the City.

Black Plaques
Black Plaques are for buildings of special architectural or historic interest.

The list was based on that found on the Manchester City Council's official website at www.manchester.gov.uk, which by now may be somewhat out of date. However, these are the latest known to exist.
