Gary Burns
We'd like to acknowledge the work done for us by Gary Burns in
the very earliest days of the Manchester project, when, on a purely
voluntary basis, he took many of the early photographs used in
this website and was a constant source of encouragement during
long days of research and setbacks when we were inclined to give
up on it altogether. Without his support the project might never
have come to fruition.
It
came to our notice in early January 2008 that another Manchester-based
company, 'MCR Connections Limited', had begun trading under the
name of Papillon Graphics, a trading name which we had been using
since 1994 and by which we are widely known throughout the region
and by the internet community world-wide. They were clearly passing
off themselves as our company, contrary to law, in order to
gain some commercial advantage, and several people were 'cold
called' by telephone and sold domain names at hugely inflated
prices, in the erroneous belief that they were trading with ourselves.
The salesman/caller clearly represented his company as Papillon
Graphics, a misleading and unfair business practice which confuses
the market and the public. It is the commercial equivalent of
identity theft, to be discouraged and rooted out wherever possible..
"Passing off" is against English Civil Law, and Fraud
is a criminal offence. Should you feel in any way cheated as a
result of such an approach, we suggest you immediately inform
your local Trading Standards office or take advice from the Citizens'
Advice Bureaux..
The title 'Papillon Graphics' and the butterfly logo are our distinguishing
brand identifiers and should not be used by others passing off
their companies as ourselves. These identifiers were also used
by our former limited company, Papillon (Manchester UK) Limited
until it was wound up in 2011. Please note that we are not in
any way connected to any other company, that we heartily disapprove
of such unethical practices and state unequivocally here that
we do not, nor ever have, sold or traded in domain names, nor
do we ever canvas or 'cold call' for business. The maxim is, as
ever, "caveat emptor" - let the buyer beware.
