The Artist
Born in 1967
in North London, Steve Withington, a former cellar man, came to
live in Sheffield in his early twenties, from where he spent some
years photographing the landscape of the Peak District and producing
abstract paintings, and is best known for his black and white
photography of the Peak District.
In 2001 Steve
left Sheffield where, as he says:
"I
put my camera to one side, and painted and pastelled for nearly
three years".
On this side
of the Pennines, living and working in Rossendale, Lancashire,
he experimented with abstract painting.
Though he
has now moved back to Sheffield, Steve's artwork was changed permanently
by this experience in Rossendale.
His website
contains a great many Peak District landscapes - all his work
from the old Wigglers website (from his days in Rossendale with
Debs Thornton), as well newer work.
In April 2003
Steve and Debs had a child together whom they called Molly. Steve
also has four other children, Tanysha, Henry, Natasha and Isabella.
