The Artist
Born in 1982 in Gosforth, Cumbria, where her parents still live,
Lindsey Davies started drawing from a very early age and received
much encouragement from her parents and teachers and still enjoys
sketching the beautiful northern lakeland countryside. Educated
at Wyndham School, she gained a distinction in Advanced GNVQ Art
& Design and went on to the University of Sunderland where
she was awarded an Honours Degree in Illustration & Design.
Subsequently,
she moved to live in Stockport
with her partner and in 2005 started up her own Art and Illustration
company - 'Tricksy Pixie Limited'.
Lindsey works from home and produces a variety of work including
fairy portraits, fantasy art, abstract paintings, bespoke and
commissioned paintings and original portraits. Her preferred mediums
are soft pastels, acrylics and oils. Lindsey says:
"I
have a pure love for drawing and enjoy drawing almost anything.
I therefore wanted my business to be as versatile as possible
so that I can create specific pieces to suit my clients requirements.
My favourite subject is fantasy and I love to illustrate stories
of fairies and angels creating my own magical worlds and fantastic
creatures."
Her upbringing
in the beautiful English
Lake District has created in her this fascination with the
magical fairy realm and its surroundings. She confesses that she
loves to make her work seem real and lifelike and infused with
emotion through her use of colour - whether in moody black and
white charcoal drawings or the vibrant abstract colours used in
much of her figure paintings. Lindsey likes to create original
and fresh pieces where no two are alike.
She identifies her major source of inspiration as her favourite
Illustrator, Brian Froud. Of his work she says:
"I
think that is work is genius... he creates characters of the
fairy realm in a realistic and un-romanticised way and fills
his pages with imagery so that you see something new and fascinating
every time you look."
She is currently
illustrating a children's book for a local author and news of
this will be listed on her website at a later date.
Lindsey works from home and produces a variety of work including
- Fairy/Faery Portraits (from photographs). By capturing what
she calls "the true nature of the subject" she illustrates
them as a character of the faery realm, typically as a cheeky
little imp or an angelic faery.
She also produces traditional portraits, pet pPortraits and her
unique and charming pet illustrations in pen and ink, as well
as fantasy art, illustrations, abstract paintings and bespoke
paintings in a range of styles to suit her clients requirements.
She recently
had an article published about herself and Tricksy Pixie Ltd in
the local The Whitehaven News which she hopes will bring
work her way.
