The Artist
Gordon was born in Stalybridge on 4th October 1947 and has lived
in the town ever since. He was educated at West Hill Secondary
Modern School and was taught by the talented water colourist Owen
Traynor.
His latest
exhibition of artwork, "Icon Art", is a collection
of original works of art featuring several highly detailed iconic
figures from the world of music, television, sport and politics.
Gordon, is
inspired by the works of art of David Oxterby, and by the fine
detail and craftsmanship of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood painters,
Sir Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
He has recently
exhibited over 25 years of his work at the Astley Cheetham Gallery
in Stalybridge in an exhibition entitled "Hollywood and
Rock and Roll".
Of his work,
Gordon says:
"The
work in the gallery is my interpretation of the many people
that have influenced me over the years; I hope you will enjoy
looking at them as much as I have in drawing them."
Although trained
as an engineer, (he repairs washing machines), Gordon confesses
that it is to his art that he returns every evening to his first
love - his artwork.
He has also
exhibited at the People's Gallery in Stalybridge, the Hare &
Hounds Pub and in the Prestige Bar in Stalybridge.
