Geoff Smith

The Artist
Geoff Smith
was originally from Hartlepool in County Durham, but after being
made redundant he moved in 1990 to Manchester and joined Greater
Manchester Police where he still serves.
Geoff has
always had a keen interest in drawing and painting and was encouraged
at an early age to make a career in art. However, he went on to
work as a Thermal Insulation Engineer, working on and off-shore
throughout the British Isles.
As a result
of a meeting with a former colleague Phil Harding he was invited
to join him in sharing studio space at Vernon Mill, Stockport,
which resulted in the first showing of his works with a then newly
formed group 'Vernon Mill Artists'.
Geoff had
his first 'solo' exhibition at the Blyth Gallery in Manchester
city centre in July 2002 with an exhibition titled "Observations",
where he was described by the Gallery as "A very versatile
painter with a variety of styles".
Later Geoff
left Vernon Mill to build his own studio in Sale, erected in the
grounds of his home, where he now spends most of his spare time
and enjoys every minute.
Geoff says:
"Due
to my love of travel and never being one to miss an opportunity
for exposure, I have supplied and sold works across the globe
- in New York, St Kitts, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Eire and
across the North of England".
He is currently
working on a series of paintings inspired by a recent visit to
the 120th Durham Miners Gala, in his cultural homeland of County
Durham, he is in the process of arranging an exhibition at next
year's Gala. To get a feel of the event visit and view his photographic
