The Printworks is another reincarnation of an old beloved building on the Manchester skyline. For many years a major headquarters for printing national newspapers, and latterly as Maxwell House, part of that ill-fated newspaper empire, the building had stood derelict on the corner of Withy Grove and Corporation Street for several years after the death of Robert Maxwell, and had sustained significant damage on the periphery of the IRA bombing of Manchester in 1996.

The reopening of the complex as the Printworks marks the final phase of the rebuilding of Manchester in the wake of that bombing. Refurbished as Europe's first urban leisure and entertainments complex, the Printworks took £150million to renovate and covers some 350,000 square feet of floor space.

It is an exciting mixture of cafés, bars, restaurants of various ethnic cuisines, a health complex, and a 20 screen cinema development.
