    High class out of town Chinese eating in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

    A sight to be seen with its collection of plastic curios, popular with local Chinese community and usually busy. There is a Chinese supermarket below.

    Open every day, one of the first genuine high class Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, as the author can verify, having eaten there as a student in the 1960s. An extensive menu, with the "banquet" meal for large (prearranged) parties.

    Located about 5 miles south of Manchester city centre, a notable restaurant with an extensive menu which also includes Thai, Vietnamese, Singaporean and Mongolian influences. This is a small but friendly restaurant with a good range of Asian beers and wines.

Tasteful surroundings, excellent service and high quality authentic Chinese cuisine since 1987. Major overhaul in 2001 earned them a prstigious award for architecture. Families welcome, with children's and vegetarian options on the menu. Often busy, phone ahead before setting off.

    Located right next to the Chinese Imperial Arch in Chinatown, this unspectacular restaurant offers traditional Chinese cuisine and stays open very, very late. First floor banqueting room available for large parties and functions.

    Open Tues-Fri from 12noon-2.15pm and Tues-Sat from 7.00pm-9.30pm. A very large restaurant, relatively new to Chinatown. Equally large menu of good quality with many traditional and unusal dishes on offer.

    On the edge of Chinatown, this fine restaurant offers so-called "hot Chinese buffets" at priced between £6.00 and £9.00 (prices may change - please check in advance). Parties and families welcome. Open every day from 12noon-3.00pm and from 5.00pm-12midnight. Children under 11 at half price and under 2 years eat free.

Parties catered for. Best to book in advance. Licenced, with a good selection of wines.

    Not quite in Chinatown - open every day, basement Chinese restaurant, beneath the Lloyds TSB Bank on Cross Street. Lunches. Evening Dinner last orders Sun- Thurs, Midnight; Friday and Saturday 1.00am. Licensed. Seafood and vegetarian specialities. Well established at this location since 1960.

    Open: Mon-Fri Noon- midnight; Sat noon-1.00am; Sun noon-11.00pm. Basic fare on offer at a low price in this unassuming café-like restaurant. Good soup noodles available.

    Open every day 12noon-11.30pm. World renowned restaurant, recently reopened in its original location after a devastating fire a few years ago. Many believe this to be the best Chinese food in Britain!! Elegant setting, very excellent food, both lunchtime specials and special banquet meals. Recommended in various Good Food Guides.
