The Artist
Contemporary
Manchester Artist, Xavier Pick trained at Glasgow School of Art
and the Royal College of Art in London. For the last 10 years
the artist has developed an approach to drawing and painting which
combines journalism with documentary illustration.
He produces
most of his work on site, not in a studio, trying to capture the
spirit and atmosphere of a place. Carrying a tool box with materials
and various drawing boards he has developed a variety of mark-making
techniques as each situation determines the use of materials and
colour.
Timescale,
the weather and mood all effect how the painting turns out and
what concerns the artist the most is to produce drawings and paintings
of what it was like being there at that time.
His work has
taken him to diverse situations ranging from Bosnia to Beirut.
He has now
based himself in Manchester where is working on a large project
producing paintings about the North of England. He owns a small
private gallery which is open by appointment only.
