The Artist
Terry Kelly was born in Manchester on the 29 March 1948 and from
a very early age he loved to draw and paint. He attended St Brigid's
School in Beswick and won a scholarship to the High School of
Art, but in the event didn't actually go there. After
leaving school he practised his art and photography as a hobby
till the 1980s when he attended several adult art schools in the
Manchester area and had some success as a freelance designer.
In the 1990s,
after a divorce and being left with two small daughters to care
for he turned again to painting in oils and began to sell his
work privately. His paintings are now seen in private collections
in Australia, America and Russia, as well as in the United Kingdom.
After being
ill for some time with heart disease and cancer he resumed painting
again and began taking photographs. Of his work Terry says:
"I
like the sea and never get tired of painting its many moods.
It's the same with the human form. But recently I was introduced
to Goth Art which I am in the process of exploring and hope
to incorporate it into my own work. Digital photography is another
media I have been experimenting with and although I use it mainly
as a tool for my art work I would like to do something more
serious with it in the future".
