The Artist
South Manchester based artist Leena Chauhan has over the last
eight years developed and refined her style of painting as it
is seen today.
Although the majority of her work is in oils, she does depart
from her own conventions to experiment with different mediums
and textures allowing her complete freedom.
Leena is British Indian and was brought up in a traditional
Indian household whilst also integrated in British society.
These contrasting
cultures have helped broaden her horizons and given her a variety
of different influences.
Her environment
is a source of inspiration from which she derives the sense of
movement and energy evident in her work. Leena says:
"How
I feel and what is happening in my life dictates what and how
I paint and so undoubtedly there is always part of me in my
pictures."
Often when
painting, what is in front of Leena takes on a life of it¹s
own as the images guide her rather than the artist following any
predetermined plan.
Leena believes
that the artist is bound only by the limits of imagination. She
feels that a simple stroke can be full of energy and so allows
each stroke to guide her.
