Formerly the home of last Earl of Stamford, and since 1976 it has been a National Trust Property. The house was altered for the 9th Earl of Stamford between 1906-1910. This fine house has over 30 rooms open to public viewing, containing outstanding collections of furniture, a collection of Huguenot silver and paintings. It has an extensive library, a kitchen, laundry and stables, as well as its own remnant moat and lake. Built on the site of an original 1616 Tudor house, whose moat still powers a fully-working Jacobean mill by means of a waterwheel. It has a large garden, apart from the parkland, which contains many old and mature trees and shrubs, herbaceous borders and water plants.
