The Macdonald Kilhey Court on Chorley Road, Standish
is set in open countryside with panoramic views of Worthington Lakes
and its own well-tended 10 acres of landscaped gardens. This is a 4
star hotel of 62 rooms, set in an original Victorian building, offering
full leisure facilities with aerobics studio, pool and high tech fitness
machines. Located within a few minutes of the motorway network and only
3 miles from Wigan town centre. An ideal setting for relaxing accommodation.
It also boasts its award winning Laureate Restaurant, a bar, heated
swimming pool, sauna, spa gym, meeting and conference rooms.

Another fairly large and centrally located hotel is
the Wigan Oak, formerly the Quality Hotel Wigan, in Orchard Street.
This 3 star rated hotel is just minutes from the famous Wigan Pier and
town centre, with easy access to many of the North West’s major attractions
including Blackpool, Camelot Theme Park, Chester and the Lake District.
This modern hotel is an ideal choice for business or pleasure. Its 88
rooms all have en-suite bathrooms, direct dial telephones, hairdryers,
tea and coffee making facilities, colour TV with satellite channels
and writing desk with plenty of space for working. There are also executive
rooms with additional comforts and disabled guests can also be accommodated.

Holland Hall Hotel in Lafford Lane, Upholland is another
prestigious establishment. Set in a stunning Grade II listed original
country house dating back to the 15th Century, and located in 2 acres

lounges.

Good lodgings can also be found in pubs and inns in
the region. Typical is the Crown Hotel Worthington, a traditional 10
bedroom English country inn, set in a pleasant rural location but only
minutes from major motorways. All rooms recently refurbished with stunning
countryside views. An extensive menu of freshly prepared dishes, a bar
that regularly features 5 cask ales and 41 wines, as well as a selection
of world bottled beers. Similarly, the centrally located The Brocket
Arms is a 28 room inn with facilities that include en-suite rooms, bar
snacks, tea & coffee making facilities, family rooms self-catering
and on-site car parking. Situated centrally and handy for Wigan Pier
and the Trencherfield Mill Leisure Centre which contains the world’s
largest working mill engine. There is also the Coaching Inn Hotel on
Warrington Road, another small 18 room, 1 star rated family-run old
traditional coaching inn, capable of accommodating up to 36 guests.
They can cater for before- and after-meals on race days in the small
restaurant which provides good home cooked food. Also on Warrington
Road is the Sporting Lodge (The Greyhound Hotel). The hotel has a traditional
pub with excellent food and an award winning restaurant. Rooms are spacious
and functional, all including en-suite bathrooms with a number of other
facilities as standard. The American style suites can sleep up to 5
people and are perfect for the family.
