Home of Sir Bernard de Hoghton, the 14th Baronet of Hoghton, and probably
one of the most dramatic looking houses in Lancashire. Three houses
have stood on this site since the first was built in 1100, and the estate
has remained intact since the Norman Conquest of Britain. Situated on
a hill commanding a view over the countryside below, the distant sea,
North Wales and even as far as the English Lake District. There are
also extensive gardens.

Hoghton Tower, Lancashire

LOCATION
6 miles south-east of Preston, east of the A675
and 10 minutes drive from Junction 28 of the M6 motorway. No practical
access via public transport.
OPENING
Open July, August and September from Monday to
Thursday, Sunday afternoons and all Bank Holidays. Check exact times
before setting off

Dorfold Hall

Nantwich, Cheshire CW5 8LD. Tel: 01270-625245. Fax:

Originally a Jacobean country house built in 1616, and in the ownership
of Mr Richard Roundell, Dorfold Hall has beautiful plaster panelling
and ceilings. Attractive spring and summer gardens.
LOCATION
One mile west of Nantwich on the A534 Nantwich-Wrexham
Road, about 1½ miles from Nantwich railway station.
OPENING
From April-October on Tuesdays and Bank Holiday
Monday afternoons. Other times by prior appointment.

Peover Hall

Over Peover, Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 9HN. Tel:

is silent)

An Elizabethan house dating from 1585, Peover Hall has fine stables
and chapel dating from the reign of King Charles I. Large gardens including
walled and herb garden and splendid topiary work.
OPENING
Open: Hall, Carolean Stable & Gardens open
May to August, Monday & Thursday afternoons (except Bank Holidays).
Tours of Peover Hall at 2.30pm & 3.30pm.

ADMISSION
Admission charges apply to enter the house, stables
and gardens, with reduced price for just the stable and gardens. Accompanied
children free of charge.
LOCATION
4 miles south of Knutsford just off the A50 at
Whipping Stocks Inn.

Rhode Hall

Church Lane, Scholar Green, Cheshire ST7 3QP. Tel:

An 18th century country house in the present ownership of Sir Richard
Baker Wilbraham, Rhode Hall has a Georgian stable block and later alterations
by L. Wyatt and Darcy Braddell, with landscape and formal gardens designed
by Nesfield. There is also an interesting Ice House and fully working
walled kitchen garden.

LOCATION
5 miles south-west of Congleton between the A34
and the A50.
OPENING
From Easter to the end of September, Wednesdays
and Bank Holidays, and at other times by appointment. Gardens only on
Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons.
ADMISSION
Admission charges apply for entry to the House
and Gardens with concessions for Pensioners. Reduced price for entry
to the Garden and Kitchen Garden only.
FACILITIES
Refreshments and home-made teas available. Parkland.

Tabley House

Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 0HB. Tel: 01565-750151. Fax:
01565-653230.
Owned by Manchester University, this fine Palladian country house (thought
by many to be the finest in the NW of England) was designed by John
Carr of York for the Leicester family. Many staterooms with family memorabilia
including furnishings by Gillow, Bullock and Chippendale.

LOCATION
About 2 miles west of Knutsford, entrance on
the A5033, of from Junction 19 on the M6 motorway at the A556.
OPENING
From April till the end of October on Thursdays,
Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays from 2.00-500pm. Last
entry at 4.30pm.
ADMISSION
Adults about £4.00, Children and students
£1.50. Prices may change – please check.
FACILITIES
Free car parking. Most rooms suitable for the
disabled. Conferences, weddings and functions catered. Refreshments
are available in the small on site teashop. Parkland, picnic areas,
gifts, special events, special group and party rates.
