Italian restaurants and domestic Italian
cuisine are celebrated worldwide for their rich diversity, with food
invariably prepared from fresh ingredients. They are an integral part
of Italian heritage and one of that country’s main cultural exports.
Italian restaurants are nowadays found in virtually every international
city and Manchester is no exception. Italians began to arrive here
in large numbers in the 19th century, settling predominantly in the
Ancoats district. From the area known as “Little Italy”
they spread out to set up restaurants serving classic Italian dishes,
wines and cuisine, so that today there are over 100 Italian restaurants,
trattorias and pizzerias in Greater Manchester and the North-west
region.
