The term “Indian Restaurants
” has come to identify many diverse providers of dishes and cuisines
from the wider subcontinent of Asia, including Bangladeshi, Pakistani,
Bengali, Punjabi and even Iranian or Persian. Most people think of simple
curries, but these restaurants offer a much wider range of meals, including
biryanis, tikkas, Halal dishes, baltis, etc. A major location for Indian
Restaurants is Rusholme
about 1½ miles south of the city centre, (also known locally
as ‘The Curry Mile’), offering arguably the largest number of curry
houses in Europe. However, Manchester city centre itself also has some
of the finest Indian restaurants in the region.
