Southport is a popular day trip for
the peoples of Manchester and Liverpool alike. Lying on the Fylde Coast
about 20 miles north of Liverpool, this traditional Victorian seaside
town has long, flat sandy beaches, family attractions, an extensive
shopping high street, many restaurants, world-class golf and all types
of accommodation from hotels to B&B guesthouses.

Popular in the region for
its 20 mile unspoilt coastline and the largest area of undeveloped
sand dunes in the Britain offering many miles of coastal walks. These
extensive golden sands, green lawns, promenades and flower beds are
attractions which beckon young and old alike.

Funfair & Victorian Arcades

There is an extensive funfair lying behind the
main town centre and on the seafront.
Lord Street, the town’s main high street thoroughfare is a delight
to the would-be shopper, with its tree-lined avenues, many high
class and expensive shops set in elegant Victorian arcades and passageways.
Virtually the whole shopping front is covered by glass and iron

Royal Birkdale

The town abounds in large houses, public buildings,
hotels and shops built mostly during Victorian and Edwardian times.
There are also many shops specialising in items for the golfer,
due to the presence of Royal Birkdale, a championship golf course,
which lies to the south of the town.

Southport Flower Show

Southport Flower Show is regularly held in late
July-Early August and well worth a visit. Contact Tourist Information

Located on the A565 a few miles equidistant from
Liverpool and Preston. Access from Manchester via the M602 motorway
signposted “Liverpool” and leading onto the M62. At Junction 10,
just before Warrington, turn north onto the M6 towards Preston.
After about 15 miles at Junction 27 turn left onto the A5209 at
Parbold. Follow signs to Ormskirk and then the A570 to Southport.
Travelling time is about 1½ hours.
