The dry
ski slope which closed to the public in April 2011 after 40
years has received some much needed tender loving care after
it was taken over as a social enterprise. Ski Rossendale had
been operating as a social enterprise since July 2011 when control
was handed over from Rossendale Leisure Trust Limited, run by
Rossendale Council. Since the takeover thousands of pounds of
reinvestment has transforming the site into a bustling tourist
attraction once again. Ski Rossendale Ltd was formed by Dave
Fuller, Karon Driver, Sue and Steve Foulkes who acquired the
lease to Run and develop Ski Rossendale.
Originally
founded in 1973 by local skiers, the dry slopes enable ski-lovers
to practice all year round. The highest quality tuition is available
for skiers and snowboarders from novice to expert. Now part
ofwho offer a comprehensive training and coaching programme.
Vending machines are located in the ski hire. T

shopping mall, this £31million development is the biggest
indoor ski centre in the UK. It brought the Alps to The Trafford
Centre when it was opened in Autumn 2007. The Chill Factor e
uses real snow to ensure an authentic Alpine experience and
includes three interconnected snow slopes - each catering for
different abilities. Activities also include snowboarding and
there are tuition classes available. There is also has a rock-climbing
wall, a toboggan run, an indoor skateboard park and children's
play zone. The two ski lifts on the main slope are suspended
from the ceiling, rather than from towers, so that there is
less obstruction on the slope. There are also two travellators
or moving walkways leading to the top of the nursery slope for
ease of use by beginners.
