Universities,
Higher Education & Training in Greater Manchester
About
Higher Education (HE) in Manchester
Greater
Manchester is well served with Educational and Training
establishments at all levels. Within the Metropolitan
County are 4 universities - Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan,
UMIST (the oldest technological university in Britain,
now part of the University of Manchester) and Salford
Universities, as well as Bolton Institute (a Higher Education
centre, and a virtual university in its own right) among
them. Higher education institutions in the United Kingdom
are the sole awarders of degrees at Bachelor, Postgraduate,
Masters and Doctorate levels. Almost always students will
be 18 years and older.
NOTE:
Please note that the former UMIST has now become part
of the University of Manchester, and we are awaiting
updates.
