The Booth Centre aims to provide a welcoming and accepting environment
for people who are homeless, to empower people to make informed choices
and make positive changes in their lives, to provide positive experiences
in order to help people to build self respect and self confidence and
to look to the future. They do this through providing a drop-in and
activity centre for people who are homeless, offering advice to help
people resolve their problems and providing a base for activities which
are creative, therapeutic, challenging and enjoyable.

One of the oldest charities in the North-west, set up at the beginning
of the 16th century to provide blankets and clothing to the poor and
needy of Salford as well as catering for their spiritual welfare. Maintained
by monies from extensive land holdings in Manchester over several centuries.

Safe In The City works within a child-centred model that assesses and

referred to the service. Working in Manchester and Salford, providing
services to a range of young people, including under 18 year old runaways
who are referred through their Missing From Home Scheme, or who approach
them directly, black and Asian young people in Manchester running away
or at risk, unaccompanied and asylum seeking young people experiencing
crisis and trauma that puts them at risk, and children and young people
who are sexually exploited.

based in the voluntary and community sector. It aims to promote an inclusive

Manchester Mencap is an organisation representing the rights and interests
of people with learning difficulties and their carers. Amongst many
other things, they aim to get improvements to laws and regulations that
affect people with learning difficulties, to work for excellent local

services work together, and to promote the rights and opportunities
of people with learning difficulties.

Founded in 1985, the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture
provides care and rehabilitation to survivors of torture and other forms
of organised violence.

The national crime reduction charity, dedicated to making society safer.
Specialist expertise in developing effective solutions to crime and
stimulating fresh thinking on how best to reduce it, especially amongst

community scheme, activities for young people and employment.

The Next Step Project is the leaving care service for young people,
aged 15½ through to 21, who have been in care. They work in partnership
with Salford City Council and the NCH children's charity. The Next Step
Project was won an award in the Community Care Awards in the "Improving
Life Chances For Looked After Children" category.

The association was set up in Blackburn in 1989 to help people with
thalassaemia and to increase awareness of the condition. It now serves
the whole of the North of England and has recently moved to a new base
in Manchester Royal Infirmary in the Denmark Road Building. They have
a programme of family events and conferences, as well as offering support
and information to anyone affected by thalassaemia.

Womens Aid provides a strategic "expert view" to government
on laws, policy and practice affecting abused women and children. We
consult with both our national network of local services and with survivors

The NSPCC was set up to protect children from cruelty, support vulnerable
families, campaign for changes to the law and raise awareness about
abuse. The NSPCC currently has 177 community-based projects and runs
the Child Protection Helpline and ChildLine in the UK and the Channel
Islands. Most of their work is with children, young people and their
families. But they also work to achieve cultural, social and political
change - influencing legislation, policy, practice, public attitudes
and behaviours and delivering services for the benefit of young people.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers was created on the initiative of
HRH The Princess Royal in 1991. At that time people caring at home for
family members or friends with disabilities and chronic illnesses were
scarcely recognised as requiring support. The largest provider of comprehensive
carers support services in the UK.

development and integration of asylum seekers and refugees. Refugee
Actions Asylum Advice teams provide a reception service for newly
arrived asylum seekers, as well as advice and advocacy. Our Choices
service provides independent advice to asylum seekers considering returning
voluntarily to their country of origin.

Salford. Salford Children's Rights Service is funded by Salford Children's
Services. The service was set up in 1995 and has grown substantially
in recent years, and depends upon volunteers who they train and support
to become Independent Visitors (IVs).
