The Palace Hotel
Oxford
Street,
Manchester M60 7HA
Situated just off the city centre on Oxford Street opposite the
Palace Theatre and across from the Cornerhouse and Oxford Road
Station, this fabulous building, formerly the Charterhouse Hotel,
now part of the Le Meridien hotels chain, has been ressurrected
after standing idle for a few years, since its original occupants,
the Refuge Insurance Company vacated it.
Still known locally (and with good reason) as the 'Refuge Building',
it is a distinctive landmark to visitors approaching Manchester
from the south. This Grade II Listed Building is one of the city's
best Victorian structures, and thus could not be in any way altered
when it was converted to a hotel. 252 rooms - all en suite - but
they are luxurious and set in a internally fully modernised building.
Some bedrooms have jacuzzis, and there the Waterhouse Restaurant
and a coffee shop on site. It offers extensive conference facilities.
