Accommodation in Grasmere

Including Hotels & Guest Houses in the English Lake District National Park

Grasmere is often regarded as one of the prettiest of the Lakes, and was made famous by its one-time resident, poet William Wordsworth, who lived in Dove Cottage. It is a small village and accommodation is limited, though there are a few medium-large hotels as well as many smaller guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments in the village.

There is the 3 star rated, 24 bedroom historic Rothay Garden Hotel located in the village, which dates from 1864 and is a convenient central location for exploring all of the Lakes. Attractively set by the side of the River Rothay with the restaurant overlooking the gardens and countryside.

Just on the outskirts of the village lies The Travellers Rest Inn, an original small 16th century coaching inn which has just 8 bedrooms, epitomising the traditional Lakeland inn with its old world charm and character - oak beams and inglenooks, roaring log fires in winter and beer gardens with panoramic views in summer, comfortable bedrooms, real ale and award winning food. Also on the edge of the village is the 2 star, 13 bedroom Grasmere Hotel, a small Victorian Guest House with its award-winning restaurant, set in an acre of informal gardens through which the River Rothay flows. The hotel retains the character of an English country house while providing modern standards of comfort and a warm friendly atmosphere. Meanwhile The Swan Hotel, another original coaching Inn built in 1650, and now part of the Macdonald Hotel chain boasts 38 bedrooms and a 3-star rating; a popular wedding venue with panoramic views off the fells.

The Waterside Hotel is also in Grasmere and has distinctive gardens that face directly onto Grasmere Lake boasting character and traditional Lake District style. As does the Golden Rill Hotel, situated in a quiet corner of Grasmere overlooking the lake and surrounded by fells and just 2 minutes walk from the village centre; this 3 star, 32 bedroom hotel stands in one acre of beautifully tended gardens which boast an outdoor swimming pool and putting green. There is also a private pier on the lake shore. The hotel has two spacious guest lounges and on chilly days there is a roaring log fire and a selection of board games or magazines to relax with. The Gold Rill's position in the Lake District makes it the ideal place from which to explore the most breathtaking scenery and fascinating attractions on the door step.
