Sweden
(Sverige) is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula
in Northern Europe. It has land borders with Norway
to the west and Finland to the northeast, and it is
connected to Denmark by the Öresund Bridge in the
south. Sweden is the third largest country in the European
Union. With a total population of around 9¼ million
it has a low population density of just 52 people per
square mile, about 85% of the population living in urban
areas. Sweden's capital is Stockholm, which is also
the largest city in the country with a population of
just over 1¼ million living in the urban area
and with 2 million in the wider metropolitan area. The
second and third largest cities are Gothenburg (Goteborg)
and Malmo. Sweden is a constitutional monarchy with
a parliamentary system of government and a highly developed
economy. It has been a member of the European Union
