About
Majorca (Mallorca)
Majorca
(or more properly in Spanish "Mallorca"), a popular holiday
destination for UK tourists with a profusion of hotels, apartments
and other accommodation for rent. Majorca is the largest of Balearic
Islands, and along with the neighbouring islands of Menorca and
Ibiza, is located off the south east coast of mainland Spain in
the Mediterranean Sea. Travel time by aeroplane from UK airports
is around 2 to 2½ hours and the island is 1 hour ahead of
Greenwich Mean Time, typical of most continental European countries.
Because of its Mediterranean climate it enjoys more-or-less guaranteed
sunshine and warm temperatures throughout a long summer season,
caters well for and is very popular with British holidaymakers.

Alcudia
Alcúdia
is a small township in the Balearic Islands, and a main
tourist centre on the island of Majorca. The area has many
sandy beaches and tourist attractions. The beach at Alcúdia
is about 6 miles long and stretches as far as C'an Picafort.
It also joins on to Playa de Muro which is home to S'Albufera;
a natural park that is very popular with bird-watchers.
There are remains of a Roman town just outside the walls,
as well as a small Roman theatre. North of the wall is the
town's bull ring. Further north and west are many coves
and beaches ideal for sunbathing or snorkelling.

Palma
Palma
(or more fully 'Palma de Mallorca') is the major city and
port on the island of Majorca and capital city of the Spanish
Balearic Islands. Almost half of the total population of
Majorca live in Palma. The Old City, located behind the
Cathedral, is a maze of streets owing much to their Arab
past. This city quarter is a mostly traffic-free area populated
with tourists most of the time, the walkways are fairly
narrow and quiet, surrounded by interesting buildings. Palma
is bordered by rocky inlets and marinas on the south side,
whilst many of the tourist resorts are located on the eastern
side.

Cala
Millor
Cala
Millor is a fair sized tourist destination on the Island
of Mallorca with a population of 5,665 inhabitants. It is
the largest tourist development on the east coast of the
island, and less than an hour's drive from the capital along
the MA15 highway. Many British tour operators sell package
deals to the resort. Cala Millor (which means "Better
Bay") is also situated close to the tourist resorts
of Sa Coma and Cala Bona ("Good Bay"), and the
Famous Porto Cristo. Restaurants in the centre and on the
seafront make for a lively but family friendly atmosphere.
The nearby beach is reputed to be one of the best on the
island. Hotel and apartment accommodation comes and goes,
but as a guide the town generally has around 61 hotels and
about 65 self-catering apartments.

Magaluf
Magaluf
is a major holiday resort on Majorca, catering chiefly for
the British and Scandinavian package holiday market. The
resort has three main beaches, popular for their white sand:
Majorca Beach, Magaluf Beach and Palma Nova Beach. These
beaches are lined with small bars and shops. Magaluf tends
to cater for both young parties as well as families, with
peak season during July and August. There are many bars
and nightclubs and night-life is centred around the Punta
Ballena strip, where most of the night clubs and bars are.
Besides bars and nightclubs, there are two water parks,
a Sling Shot, go kart racing, horseback riding and various
water sports including SCUBA, Jet skiing and wind surfing.
A number of hotels have more family friendly dinner shows
and cabarets.

Palma
Nova
Palma
Nova (literally meaning "New Palm") was one of
the first purpose-built tourist destinations on the island,
catering for all tastes. With the advent of low cost airlines,
Palma Nova has grown to become a major holiday destination
for British and European tourists. Palma Nova has three
large beaches - Playa de Son Maties, Playa de Palma Nova
and Playa des Carregador, the latter being the quieter of
the three beaches and lies in the northern end of the resort.
Palma Nova is very popular among British tourists and this
has led to many restaurants offering food to suit their
taste like hamburgers and dishes with French fries, but
also offers other types of cuisine including Indian, Chinese
and local Mallorcan dishes.

the hills either side of the bay. It is predominantly a
summer resort with a high season lasting from May to October.
It also has two 18-hole golf courses. Every September there
is a grand fiesta to commemorate the landing of King James
the First, who liberated it from Moorish occupation, with
a mock battle between the Moors and Christians on the beach.
It is a two week fiesta which incorporates a pop concert
and firework display.
