About
Ibiza
Ibiza is
a most popular holiday destination for British tourists, offering
many hotels and apartments and an active nightlife. In fact,
the Island of Ibiza is probably best known for its long summer
parties, with thousands of young adults flooding in for the
big summer club nights. Along with the neighbouring islands
of Menorca and Majorca, it is located off the south east coast
of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. Travel time by aeroplane
from UK airports is around 2 to 2½ hours and the island
is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, typical of most continental
European countries. Because of its Mediterranean climate it
enjoys more-or-less guaranteed sunshine and warm temperatures
throughout a long summer season, caters well for and is very
popular with British holidaymakers.

Eivissa
(Ibiza City)
Ibiza
city is located on the south-east coast of the island.
Although called Ibiza in Spanish, its official Catalan
name is Eivissa (as restored in 1986) and its inhabitants
call it 'Vila d'Eivissa' or simply 'Vil'a. It's divided
into two main parts: the old town, called Dalt Vila (literally
"Upper Town"), located in the little mountain
by the sea, and the modern part, called Eixample. Sights
include the cathedral of Santa Maria d'Eivissa (14th century),
located on the top of Dalt Vila, and the Punic necropolis
of Puig des Molins. Ibiza is widely known for its nightlife.
Two of the island's most luxurious nightclubs are located
in Ibiza Town centre. The town has two beaches: the nearby
Platja d'en Bossa (see below) and Ses Figueretes. Ses
Figueretes is without doubt the definitive Eivissa City
beach, because it is in the part of the town nearest the
city centre and can be reached by public transport, on
foot or by bicycle. It is ideal for low-risk sunbathing
and swimming, as the beach is sheltered from strong winds.
On one side of this beach is the Ses Pitiüses walkway,
a pedestrian area lined with hotels and other complementary
services. In this regard, Ses Figueretes is a comfortable
beach for tourists. The seabed is shallow and sandy in
some of these beaches and rocky in others.

Playa
d'en Bossa
Playa
d'en Bossa is a major holiday resort in Ibiza primarily
catering for the British and German package holiday market.
It is located about 2 miles south of Ibiza Town. With
the longest stretch of beach on the island at 2 miles,
the resort has plenty of hotels, bars and cafés
catering to many different budgets and tastes. Watersports
are available along the beach and the Aguamar Waterpark
is located near the resort centre. . The island's main
airport is just 2 miles away from Playa D'en Bossa.

Puerto
San Miguel
Also
known as 'Port de Sant Miguel', this small town has a white
sandy beach on the north west coast of Ibiza. Steep steps
leading up the cliffs offer good vantage points for photographing
the bay. There are several large concrete hotels and apartment
blocks around the bay but a short walk to an unspoilt cove
called Cala d'es Multons shows how the area would have looked
before these developments.

San
Antonio Abad
Sant
Antoni de Portmany or, (Spanish: San Antonio Abad) is
a town on the western coast of Ibiza. Most English-speakers
refer to it, simply, as San Antonio. It is the second-largest
town in Ibiza and said to be the clubbing capital of the
world. It is situated on Sant Antoni Bay on the west coast
of the island. For two thousand years Sant Antoni was
a small quiet fishing village, but in the late 1950s many
hotels and tourist resorts were built as part of a mass
tourism initiative and by the 1980s Sant Antoni had acquired
the stigma of being the holiday location of choice for
British football hooligans, which lead to a decline in
tourism in the area. However, it regained its popularity
in the mid-1990s, (particularly in Britain), as having
the best night clubs in the world. Young British clubbers
make up the vast majority of visitors to the area.

Santa
Eulalia del Rio
Santa
Eulària Des Riu (Spanish: Santa Eulalia del Rio)
is a municipality on the eastern coast of Ibiza. The only
river on the island flows through the town of Santa Eulària.
There are two great flea markets which attract large numbers
of tourists and locals. Located just over 12½ miles
from the airport, the town is a tourist resort for families.
There are no clubs, no exotic shops, just a really nice
tranquil town with a beautiful beach and a superb range
of restaurants and hotels.
