The
main departments in Bourgogne (English: Burgundy) are the
Côte d'Or, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire and
the Yonne, with the Morvan National Park at the centre of
the region. It includes the former Duchy of Burgundy, an
important historic region governed over by the powerful
Dukes of Burgundy. Famed for its rich fruity wines (Beaujolais,
Chablis, Macon, etc), and for the great medieval abbeys
at Cluny and Auxerre. There are five main wine regions in
Burgundy: Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune,
Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais. The producers
are famed for the quality of their wines, made using traditional
methods. The city of Dijon is the capital of the Côte-d'Or
department and of the Bourgogne region and the historical
capital of the province of Burgundy. Population as of 2005
