Barcelona
Barcelona
is the capital and the most populous city of Catalonia
and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with
a population of over 1½ million within its administrative
limits on a land area of around 39 square miles. Barcelona
is today one of the world's leading tourist, economic
and cultural centres. It has a Mediterranean climate with
mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers. The city contains
68 municipal parks, several museums and galleries and
was recently listed first among the Top 10 Beach Cities
in the world by National Geographic Magazine.

Lloret & Tossa de Mar
The
coastal town of Lloret de Mar is one of the most popular
holiday resorts on the Costa Brava. It is 25 miles from
Girona and about 48 miles from Barcelona and therefore
easily accessible. With a population of 39,363 it is the
second largest town in the Selva County of Catalonia.
For decades Lloret de Mar has attracted summer visitors
on package tours and is considered as one of the most
important resorts on the Costa Brava. Its main beach of
almost a mile is of white sand and is consistently awarded
the Blue Flag for its cleanliness. Llorets
nightlife attracts an eighteen to thirties crowd mainly
from the United Kingdom and other, mostly European, countries.
The
main revenue stream in Tossa de Mar was until recent times
the small fishing industry, which although still active
and occupies a few members of local fishing families,
it is now dependent mostly on tourism like its neighbour
Lloret de Mar. Most of the fish sold to local restaurants
and in the fish markets in neighbouring towns.

Tarragona
Tarragona
is a large port located in the south of Catalonia and
is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name.
In the medieval and modern times it was the capital of
the Vegueria of Tarragona. Recent studies show that the
city had a population of 155,323. A number of beaches,
some awarded a Blue Flag designation, line the Mediterranean
coast near the city. Tarragona is located near the holiday
resort of Salou and the theme park Port Aventura, one
of the largest in Europe.

Girona
Girona
(or Gerona) is a city in the north-east of Catalonia with
an estimated population of 95,000. It is the capital of
the province of the Girona and a popular destination for
tourists and Barcelona day-trippers - the train journey
from Barcelona Sants Railway Station to Girona takes only
around 1½ hours with regular services. A beautiful
city with an old historic Jewish Quarter worth a visit.
The town's airport, Girona-Costa Brava, is about 6 miles
south of the town centre and has grown significantly in
recent years as a result of Ryanair choosing it as one
of their European hubs. Whilst the airport has been used
since the early 1980s for charter flights, holidaymakers
and other travellers now have a wider range of scheduled
flights available from a number of destinations across
Europe.

Figueres
(Figueras)
Figueres, (or in Spanish: Figueras), in Catalan
means "fig trees") is the capital of the District
of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia.
The
town is the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí,
and houses the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí,
a large museum designed by Dalí himself which attracts
many visitors. It is also the birthplace of Narcís
Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first successful
machine powered submarine. Also born here was Mónica
Naranjo, one of the best selling Spanish singers of the
1990s and 2000s. Located about 30 miles from Girona and
the Girona-Costa Brava Airport. It is also served by its
own railway station just east of the Old Town centre.

Roses
(Rosas)
Roses
(or in Spanish: Rosas) is a municipality on the
coast at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses and is
an important fishing port and tourist centre. The C-260
road links the town with Figueres. In recent decades Roses
has profited enormously from the growth of tourism. Its
coast is marked by cliffs and secluded coves with clear,
bright-blue waters, fine-grain sand, and waters ideally
shallow enough for families and for water sports. On offer
are go-karting, a water park, mini-golf and sailing boat
cruises to the Cap de Creus. The local cuisine is typically
Mediterranean, being based on fresh fish from Roses Bay.
The local speciality "Suquet de Peix", a sort
of fish and shellfish soup or stew.
