Manchester
Employment Statistics
Figures
shown below are latest and best available at the time of writing.
Manchester
is the third most densely populated conurbation in the country.
The city has a vast local labour market, with over 60% of the
UK within two hours drive and the capital just thirty minutes
away by air. 2.57 million live in Manchester alone, and 7 million
in the north west region of England.
Tabular information relating to the numbers of job seekers,
situations vacant and unfilled vacancies current as to July
1999 is available
Employment figures show that the North West is currently well
above national employment figures as a whole, with most jobs
being in the service sector. Manufacturing is still strong in
the area, reflecting the historical origins of the city as an
industrial centre.
