Comedy, house, the best in funk, dance and "uplifting" vocals every Saturday until 2.00am, and regular monthly events by the Glasshouse (of Leeds) bringing (quote) "glamour and outrage" to Manchester - Saturday night to Sunday morning every month from 2.30am - 9.00am. Entry is £8.00, £6.00 for members (but please check - prices may have changed).

BERNARD MANNING'S EMBASSY CLUB

The Embassy Club is Bernard Manning's own and long established creation, specialising in his own upfront, provocative and abrasive humour, usually with 2 or 3 supporting acts. Open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 7.30pm. Pool Hall and Bar adjoining - open every day.

BUZZ, THE
The Southern Hotel, Nell Lane, Chorlton, M21. Tel: 0161-440 8662.
Probably the oldest comedy club in Manchester, it has been a showcase for many of the city's leading comedians. Seats 200. Usually on Thursdays 8.00pm-11.00pm.

COMEDY STORE
Deansgate Lock, Castlefield, Manchester. Tel: 0161-839 9595.
Situated in the trendy Castlefield Deansgate Locks, the famous Comedy Store opened in Manchester in September 2000 on the heels of its more celebrated London venue. It boasts a 500 seat auditorium, a public bar, dining area and other entertainments delights.

FROG & BUCKET COMEDY CLUB
Frog & Bucket Inn Oldham Street, Manchester.
This relocated pub (which, confusingly, used to be in Newton Street - that pub is now called Tommy Ducks) is usually open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (telephone to check).

HARDY'S WELL

A large pub venue close to Manchester City's Maine Road Football Stadium. Popular haunt for students. Usually open Friday 8.00pm-11.00pm

IRISH JESTERS COMEDY CLUB

Held in an old converted cinema, a once- monthly comedy club featuring mainly Irish comedians. Usually the third Thursday of each month from 8.00pm-11.00pm (club open afterwards).

A small upstairs club above a pub, seating a maximum of 60 people. Usually Fridays from 8.00pm-11.00pm.

MULBERRY'S COMEDY CELLAR

Another small club where you can be entertained by local comedians and eat supper at the same time. Usually open Sunday 8.00pm-10.30pm.

Opus is a new venue to come to the Printworks in Manchester and it is a brand new concept in entertainment. Comedy lounge shows every Friday and Saturday evenings - doors open from 7.00pm and shows start at 8.00pm. Boasts the very best comedy circuit comedians. Ink Brasseries serves meals, the Live Room offers live music and the Chill Out Room has endless cocktails.

ROSCOE'S

Lively, friendly pub attracting a wide range of customers who can socialise and relax in the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Roscoe's offers a variety of activities including disco party nights with music from the 70's through to the present day, quizzes, Premiership football, karaoke, live music and comedy. XS MALARKEY

Every Tuesday night from around 8.30pm-11.20pm. Entry fee of around £2.00 for members and students, £4.00 for everybody else. £6.00 for lifetime membership (but please check - prices may have changed). This the new name for "Manchester's cheapest quality comedy club", formerly based at Scruffy Murphys. Bar licensed till midnight with plenty of cheap beer. Top line comedians appearing alongside relative newcomers.
