Fleetwood
prides itself on "Hospitality & Service". As a popular seaside
holiday resort it was founded just over 150 years ago as a
resort for Victorian Gentlefolk.
Notable
for its one-time great fishing and seafood industry, this
function has somewhat declined in recent years, though many
visitors still feel the need to visit the jetties where Fleetwood
trawlers still offload their catch, or else they enjoy hiring
or chartering one of the many local boats to try their hands
at sea angling.
The
Marina and Yacht Club attract sleek boats from all along the
Fylde Coast. More modestly, the visitor can rent a small boat
or pedalo, or learn windsurfing at Fleetwood's Windsurfing
Club.
On
a smaller scale still, there is a model yacht lake where annual
championships are held.
The
Fleetwood Museum, well worth a visit, traces the nautical
and maritime history of Fleetwood.
The
seafront Leisure Centre offers a wide range of activity sports,
and next door is an indoor swimming pool, with an outdoor
pool open in summer months, with a free kiddies' paddling
pool nearby.
The
town also has a Crown Green for Bowling at the Marine Gardens.
The
foreshore offers a 9 hole golf course, a Crazy Golf Green,
and the Fleetwood Golf Course is available for the more serious
golfer.
