The Artist
Contemporary
Manchester artist, Xavier Pick trained at Glasgow School of
Art and the Royal College of Art in London.
For the
last 20 years the artist has developed an approach to drawing
and painting which combines journalism with documentary illustration.
He produces
most of his work on site, not in a studio, trying to capture
the spirit and atmosphere of a place.
Xavier uses
various recording devices - obsessively keeping daily journals,
combining film with digital images to produce large storytelling
pieces.
Timescale,
the weather and mood all effect how the painting turns out and
what concerns the artist the most is to produce drawings and
paintings of what it was like being there at that time.
His work
has taken him to diverse situations ranging from Bosnia to Beirut.
He is currently working with the Ministry of Defense as a war
artist in Iraq and Afghanistan.
