The Artist
Born in
1967 in North London, Steve Withington, a former cellar man,
came to live in Sheffield in his early twenties, from where
he spent some years photographing the landscape of the Peak
District and producing abstract paintings, and is best known
for his black and white photography of the Peak District.
In 2001
Steve left Sheffield where, as he says:
"I
put my camera to one side, and painted and pastelled for nearly
three years".
On this
side of the Pennines, living and working in Rossendale, Lancashire,
he experimented with abstract painting.
Though he
has now moved back to Sheffield, Steve's artwork was changed
permanently by this experience in Rossendale.
His website
contains a great many Peak District landscapes - all his work
from the old Wigglers website (from his days in Rossendale with
Debs Thornton), as well newer work.
In April
2003 Steve and Debs had a child together whom they called Molly.
Steve also has four other children, Tanysha, Henry, Natasha
and Isabella.
