Lynda M Roberts

Self Portrait of the Artist

Lynda Roberts was born in Liverpool, but moved to Manchester when she was eight, living in Cheetham Hill, (Hightown) as it was then called. She now resides in Prestwich, where she has lived for the past 30 years. She attended Bolton Institute as a mature student, completing 2 years Foundation work and is now in the final year of her Visual Arts BA Hons degree. Although her work was mainly representational, there has been a gradual shift over the years towards abstraction.

“My work has always been spontaneous and gestural. Investigation into abstraction, I feel has freed my work even more.”

In between her course work, which includes a dissertation about German Myth, she is presently engaged in the promotion of her website, which shows a personal project that she completed last year, and is continuing to resolve in her final year.

“The ‘Echostains’ concept explores the realms of communication and code, by use of colour and spatial relationships. I have progressed this to include historical references, where I explore the use of colour to suggest these, (any figurative images are purely incidental). The main objective is communication, how we perceive and ‘read these ‘codes’. From the stain on Leonardo’s wall to the magical code of the Fibonacci numbers, String Theory, (Which I’m working on at the moment, not on my site yet).”

Lynda’s work investigates the idea of the artist as a magician and attempts to communicate on a metaphysical plain through subconscious use of colour and form.

“The ‘stain’ is the form, and the ‘echo’ is the communication between the artist and the viewer – an exchange.”

Lynda can be contacted by email at: art@echostains.co.uk
