
The Artist
("Droylsden
Prison Blues" self portrait deconstructing)
David Whitfield was born on 27th September 1973 in Wigan. He
studied fine art and design at Manchester
Metropolitan University, and currently lives and works from
his studio in Droylsden.
Primarily
a portrait painter working generally in oils he has completed
commissions for a variety of clients including Lord Hoyle ,
Terry Wynn MEP, D. Dover MEP and a variety of people including
teachers and figures from around the local Greater Manchester
area.
His work
has been exhibited in the Manchester Open Art Exhibition and
at the Bristol Royal Academy.
Of his work,
David says:
"With
the portraits I produce I am trying to capture a unique and
expressive image of the sitter both physically and psychologically.
My inspiration comes from a wide variety of expressive and
expressionist artists such as Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch ,
Oscar Kokoshka and Francis Bacon."
