
The Artist
David Chandler
is Head of the Media and Film Department at Aquinas College
in Stockport. He was educated at Cambridge (English and the
History of Art) and the Courtauld Institute under Michael Kitson.
At Wimbledon
School of Art in 1982 he was taught by Prunella Clough, Chris
LeBrun and Maggie Hambling.
Awarded
the 'Gertrude Hermes' print prize in1987. He based his early
work in relief and intaglio printmaking and has developed these
approaches into his painting.
Of himself,
David says:
"My
recent artwork continues my long held interest in the lost
landscapes of the Roman countryside. I work in acrylic, clay
and bronze, in sequenced themes. The genre is landscape poetry."
The British
Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, the Whitworth Gallery,
Manchester and Churchill College Cambridge have examples his
work.
He has also
produced a number of bronze art medals and small sculptures.
These are also in public and private collections in the UK.
