The Artist
Christopher
T Finch is a British contemporary abstract artist, born in 1990
at The Royal Bolton Hospital. Living all his life in the North
West, he has spent his time being absorbed in studying art and
photography.
This year
(2011) he received his BA Honours in Photography, at the University
of Central Lancashire, Preston. He currently lives in the town
of Wigan in Greater Manchester.
The work
he produces often subverts ordinary perspective. It reflects
his inspiration from Surrealist Theory, concepts that suggest,
...error is certaintys constant companion, error
is the corollary of evidence (Louis Aragon).
Starting
his work with photography, his inspiration from various movements
in modern art recently has spurred him into other mediums. Whilst
painting and drawing are two prime examples, he has developed
a set of techniques that are unique to his practice. These include
the production and use of home-made cameras and the combination
of light drawing with digital collage.
Of his work
Christopher says that he
"...
is informed by the movements in art and literature over the
last century, with the intention of innovating art in this
one. Looking at the normalised methods of production of mainstream
art today, my passion lies in finding the more interesting
compromise. My understanding is that the rhetoric of visual
conventions in mass media is a root cause for social and political
alienation. Furthermore, the goal of my ever-expanding practice
is to encourage new clarity of vision by distorting the conventions
of day-to-day perception".
In 2008,
one of his photographs won a regional competition hosted by
the
Manchester Metropolitan University, coinciding with a display
of the work at the Manchester Art Gallery as part of the award
ceremony.
Following
this he has moved from project to project. From late 2010 to
2011, one project involved a collaboration with the regional
television presenters from BBC North West Tonight.
At The
National Photography Symposium 2011 in Liverpool, Christopher
was given the opportunity to pitch his work in front of international
and local visitors. This ran alongside the Look11 International
Photography Festival, which he also took part in.
