Geoffrey Key - Manchester Artist
The Artist

Geoffrey Key was born in Manchester, England, in 1941. His early education was at Manchester High School of Art.

In 1958 he began degree and post graduate studies at the then Manchester Regional College of Art, (later to become part of Manchester Polytechnic and then the Metropolitan University of Manchester).

While at the College of Art he gained the National Diploma of Design and the Diploma of Associateship of Manchester; the latter with distinction, leading to a postgraduate scholarship in sculpture.

Geoffrey lives and works in the North West region of England.

His academic awards include the Heywood Medal in Fine Art and the Guthrie Bond Traveling Scholarship.

During his career he has exhibited (exhibitions) widely and his work features in important public, corporate and private art collections throughout the world.

His reputation is internationally recognised and he has held exhibitions throughout the UK and worldwide for more than 30 years, with shows in Manchester, London, Bradford and Preston, as well as in France, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland, New York, Dublin and Kuala Lumpur.

His work is to be found in many private and public collections locally in Manchester, Bolton and Wigan and as far afield as France, the USA, Greece, Malta and Hong Kong, among many others.

In praise of his work, American Club News, (Hong Kong) wrote:

"First impressions of Geoffrey Key's work reveal confidence, dedication, purpose and sincerity. More exciting than Braque and placing Picasso in time perspective, he conveys a classical quality with no question of imitation. His images are uncompromisingly commanding and he has a penetrating vision, which allows him to strip away the facades and expose the true meaning of his subject".

There are now 2 books available about Geoffrey and his work, including "Geoffrey Key - Twentieth Century Drawings", and "Clowns", which covers a single unique series of paintings from the summer of 2001, originating in Key's themes of jesters, musicians and dancers

In June 2004, "LivingEdge" magazine, which deals with life and style in the North West, published an illustrated article on the subject of Geoffrey Key and his work.

An extensive gallery of work can be found on his webiste at:
