Cartwright

The Artist
Self taught
artist Gary Cartwright was born in Stockport
in 1963, one of 10 children. He lost both his parents at an
early age most of his paintings are influenced by his own life
experiences and news headlines.
Positive
Nation, a London-based Magazine, described him in a feature
article as "Manchester's own popular Brit artist".
His works are both thought-provoking and dramatic! Each painting
tells the viewer its own story.
He currently
has works in the Manchester

Police Museum collections, along with many works in private
collections across the north of England. He has held solo exhibitions
in Europe and been featured in many publications.
Some of
his work has been considered controversial and shocking and
has even been linked with the likes of Damien Hirst and Lucien
Freud. At present he stands at the forefront of Manchester Brit
Art and is fast becoming one of the most talked about artists
in the region, and his work is now becoming highly sought after
by collectors in Britain and Europe. .
One of
Gary's main passions is helping local charities to raise funds
by donating either paintings for auction or by giving a percentage
of sales from his exhibitions to various local charities. These
include the Terrence Higgins Trust, the George House Trust Children's
Fund in Manchester, the Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals
(PDSA), and the Christie Hospital.
The Manchester
Evening News described him as a 'modern day icon' after
the "Icons" exhibition in aid of children suffering
from AIDS. He is also featured on the www.papaink.org .
One of his most infamous paintings is 'KILLER' (bottom left)
featuring the harrowing image of moors murderer Myra Hindley.
