The Artist
Andrew
Broadhead was born in Yorkshire in 1971. A particularly skilled
draughtsman and portrait painter, Andrew, a self-taught artist,
works primarily in oils, mixed media and photography, using
a variety of supports.
His work
is an eclectic mix of childhood memories, emotional response,
and abstract exploration. Andrew says:
"I
love to have fun and play with art. It can all get taken so
seriously. When you think about it, what do we really see
when we look at something, or anything for that matter? Our
eyes are so heavily veiled by societies prejudices and current
trends that true beauty is so easily lost."
On leaving
school he trained as a graphic designer but quickly felt limited
by the constraints of this field and left to continue his studies.
In 1991
he moved to Manchester to study and has lived and worked there
ever since. After wandering aimlessly, career-wise for the next
decade, and after much soul searching, he rediscovered his artistic
roots and returned to his love of art.
Having participated
in recent exhibitions as part of a small group of artists, his
focus now is on turning art into his full-time occupation.
Andrew currently
has a flourishing part-time business painting portraits and
hopes this will continue to expand to allow him the freedom
to pursue his dream.
